In September of this year it will be 50 years since the first Dunfermline Folk Club met in the Howff, a cellar in Chalmers Street. The current Dunfermline Folk Club is planning to celebrate this at their Dunfermline Folk Weekend from 28th to 30th October. Plans currently include a Ceilidh dance with the Dollarfield Ceilidh Band, a concert with Barbara Dickson and Archie Fisher, both of whom appeared at the Howff. Both of these events will take place in the Glen Pavillion.
Running up to the weekend a photo-montage exhibition which focusses on the club's history from its early days at 'The Howff' (1961 - 1969) is being put together by local artist Ian Moir. Ian is appealing to the public for photos, stories, or any other relevant and inspiring material that could help him prepare the exhibition. This may include old posters, ticket stubs, press clippings, cine-footage, audio recordings etc. If anyone has anything they would like to contribute, Ian can be contacted directly by phone - 01383 739381 or email on iansmoir77@yahoo.co.uk . All items will be returned in due course.
